Applications for the latest round of the Low Emission Transport Fund (LETF) open from March 1.
Round 13 of the Low Emission Transport Fund (LETF) opens on Friday, March 1, with EECA (the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) seeking applications focusing on off-road and on-road specialist vehicles and technology. The round targets innovative low-emissions projects that will help demonstrate what’s possible in the transport sector and which would not otherwise happen without support.
The round will have up to $13 million available for co-funding. EECA’s focus is on targeting government investment in projects that face the biggest barriers, provide most public benefit and replication opportunity.
Applicants have until Tuesday, April 2, 2024, to submit their proposals, and successful projects will be announced from June 2024.
The Investment Activity for this funding round has three focus areas:
Technology
- Encourage innovation in approaches and technologies that can result in transport decarbonisation. This could include smart charging and software to reduce or defer peak electricity demand, and optimisation of the use of low emission vehicles and other modes of transport, and Mobility-as-a-Service applications.
- Provide charging infrastructure technology that demonstrates the ability to address constrained infrastructure or power availability at charging locations of interest.
- Facilitate the scale up of EV technology, especially in vehicle fleets, for example, fleet optimisation/transition studies for light or heavy vehicles.
Vehicles
- Demonstrate low emission on-road and off-road vehicles with a new business case, demonstration opportunity in a new sector or use case, or address significant barriers in an organisation or sector.
- Demonstrate opportunities to consolidate the existing fleet of vehicles and provide innovative ways to transport people and goods.
Software and support
- Provide software applications that will accelerate the transition of the fleet to zero emissions.
- Support the development of low emission transport maintenance, repair and other support services.
- Support the development of battery recycling and repurposing services.

About the LETF
The Low Emission Transport Fund, administered by EECA, supports the demonstration and adoption of low-emission transport technology, innovation and infrastructure.
The Fund will focus on activities in the transport sector that move people and/or goods on roads, off-road, and in the marine and aviation sectors to:
- Demonstrate innovative solutions that will enable future adoption and deployment
Reduce energy related emissions in the transport sector. - Address market and organisational barriers through co-investment and diffusion of new knowledge and lessons, and
- Share knowledge and lessons to stimulate wider replication of successful projects and solutions in the transport sector.
Wider transport systems and activities (such as building roads, urban design, mode shift policy) are excluded.
