About the MEPSL Programme
Currently, around 90% of the electricity generated in Nauru is from imported diesel. This means that energy efficiency is highly important both for the environment and the energy security of locals.
Nauru has set a target to save 30% of its energy use in the residential and commercial sectors through energy efficiency initiatives.
The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing funding to assist Nauru with the introduction of energy efficiency requirements for products.
Initially, product categories covered will include domestic refrigeration, single phase air conditioners, washing machines and commercial refrigeration.
The New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) are supporting the initiative by providing the Nauru Government access to product registration and regulatory information.
