The New Zealand Cabinet has agreed to update the requirements to harmonise with an international test standard for registration of electric motors, streamlining the registration process for industry.
We will be adopting the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) test method for three phase cage electric induction motors; the IEC 60034-2-1 Ed 2.0, Rotating electrical machines Part 2 1: Standard methods for determining losses and efficiency from tests (excluding machines for traction vehicles).
EECA works closely with Australia, through the E3 Programme and our regulations for energy using products are similar. Australia will be implementing these requirements through a Determination which can be viewed at the link below. Whilst the Determination is an Australian legal document, it may be of interest to New Zealand stakeholders as EECA will be updating our regulations in line with this document.
